RMS living luminizer dupe

Use this beauty tip to “lift” the high point of your cheekbone and outer corner of the eye for a more youthful and well-rested look: Using your ring fingers, gently tap luminizer in a “c” shape around the outer corner of your eye

I am a huge fan of using luminizing products to highlight facial features and RMS Living Luminizer is one of my favorites.  One of the reasons this product has such a devout following is that it is a natural based product that is free of harsh or controversial chemicals.  After reading the ingredient list I realized this would be a super easy DIY beauty project to share with you on the blog.

Kelly’s DIY Living Luminizer

Ingredient list:

  • 1 tbs coconut oil
  • 1 tsp castor oil
  • 1/3 tbs beeswax (pellets are best, they melt faster)
  • 2 Stella Eyeshadows from Mirabella Beauty
  • 1 vit e capsule
  • 3 drops rosemary extract

Directions:

  1. Melt beeswax (I like to use a hot plate to warm ingredients but if you don’t have one, you can use a double boiler, click here for instructions )
  2. Once beeswax has liquefied, add the coconut oil and castor oil and mix well to combine
  3. Once the wax/oil mixture is smooth, add your highlight ingredient of choice and mix well.  I used two pans of Stella Eyeshadow from Mirabella Beauty
  4. Puncture Vitamin E capsule and add contents to your mixture
  5. Add 3 drops of rosemary extract
  6. Mix until smooth then pour into jars and allow to cool. (Do not put lids on containers until completely cooled)

Caption Polish in shade Get to the Point on trend for fall 2016

Caption Polish Get to the Point nail polish is a gorgeous warm terra cotta orange shade that is perfect for fall color palettes.   Get to the Point is one of 8 new shades in the 2016 Classics Collection, all of which were inspired by muted shades reminiscent of vintage roadsters with sandy desert tones and dusty varnishes.

get-to-the-point-caption-polish

Caption Polish is not your typical nail polish.  It’s a hybrid of sorts between a long last nail polish and a gel polish that doesn’t require UV light.  Created with LacQ3 Technology which combines a triple layer fusion of dual polymer, volcanic glass, shellac and plant-derived plasticizers, Caption Polish has the durability of gel.  As a result, wear time is 2 to 2 times longer than regular nail polish.  I also love the fact that it dries much faster than regular polish. (according to packaging, Caption polish dries 3 times faster!)

The tip of the brush is much more precise, a bit beveled so that it follows the natural curve of the nail bed.  Removal with traditional nail polish remover is super easy due to the soak-free instant formula.

Caption Polish is 100% cruelty free with no harsh chemicals like Formaldehyde, DBP, and Toluene.

Fall beauty with Hynt Beauty

The fall beauty look shown above was created using products from one of my favorite cosmetic lines, Hynt Beauty.  (PR Samples provided for this review)

I discovered Hynt last fall when the brand’s PR person reached out to me about trying their products.  I can honestly say it was “love at first sight”.  All of their products are free of controversial chemicals and packed full of skin loving ingredients including antioxidants, plant extracts and phytonutrients. You can read more about the brand here: Hynt Beauty.

Sweet Canyon eye shadow palette from Hynt Beauty

I don’t often wear a lot of color on my lids since I have very deep set eyes.  I chose the eye shadow look above because of the shade in the middle, a beautiful burnt red-orange shade that, based on color theory, I knew would compliment my green eyes.

Placement is key when wear bold eye shadow looks on deep set eyes.

Fall eye shadow look using Suite Eye Shadow Palette in Sweet Canyon by Hynt Beauty

  1. Since dark colors make things recede, I applied the brown shade above the crease, onto the orbital bone.  (Note that I did not say IN the crease) With deep set eyes, the crease is already strongly defined as it is the most recessed part of the eye.  By applying the darkest shade onto the orbital bone, just above the crease you create the illusion that the lid is more forward than the crease by making the orbital bone appear further back (a/k/a contouring it with the brown shadow)

  2. Next I applied the lightest color shadow all over the lid, into crease and all the way up to the line where the brown color ends, closest to the brow.
  3. Last, pack the burnt orange color onto the outer corner of the eye, in a V shape using a narrow, flat eye shadow brush or beveled contour brush.  You will need to pat the color on in multiple steps to build up the pigment as shown in the photo of me above (Note, pat not sweep the color across the skin to increase depth of pigment)

  4. Apply Forte High Definition Eye Liner in black to the rim of the upper lash line using the tightline technique, subtly defining the area of the skin between the lashes to create the illusion of a thicker lash line.

  5. Curl lashes and use mascara of choice to finish off this gorgeous fall eye shadow look

Review of Fake Bake Coconut Tanning Serum

Self-tanners are staples in my year-round beauty and skin care arsenal.  You might think self-tanning products are for summer use only but for me, it’s quite the opposite.

In summer, I rely on self-tanning products to blend tan lines obtained during outdoor activities. Despite the fact that I always wear SPF of 30 or higher, I have year-round tan lines from playing tennis.  In the cooler months of the year, self-tanning products provide a consistent warmth to my skin, keeping me from looking washed out due to sallowness in the skin.

One of my newest discoveries in the self-tanning product segment is Coconut Tanning Serum from Fake Bake.  The formula is a light-weight self-tanning serum that contains anti-aging ingredients including coconut oil and hyaluronic acid.

Color develops within a 4 to 6-hour window, however, if left longer the color absorbs better and lasts longer.  I recommend using at night then showering in the morning.

Coconut Tanning Serum is a bronze colored serum that makes it easy to see where color has been applied.  The tint washes off leaving a gorgeous golden tan in its place.   (I LOVE the way it smells!)

Directions:
Shake well, always wear gloves. (gloves are included in the box) Apply on clean, dry skin. Use small amounts of serum on each area and massage into skin in small circular motions ensuring even coverage. Lightly glaze over hands and feet. Bend elbows and knees when applying. Night time application is recommended. Best if left on for 4-6 hours after application for maximum absorption and a longer lasting tan. Once tan is developed, rinse away guide color using warm water only. Apply as often as required to achieve your desired tan.

Formula is free of parabens and preservatives.  Refrigerate for extended shelf line.

sun protection for hair

Do you protect your hair and scalp while participating in outdoor festivities?  Just like the skin on our bodies, our scalp and the hair on our heads need protection from harmful UV rays.

Overexposure to the sun has a negative impact on the barrier of natural oils we have on our scalp. The the blood vessels become dilated and inflamed which can lead to the synthesis of superoxide which slows down the growth cycle of the hair and even cause hair loss. When hair is unprotected from the sun’s damaging UV rays, it looses its luster and becomes dull, dry and brittle. Color treated hair has a much greater risk of being damaged by the sun because the hair follicles open during the process of coloring, especially when it is lightened or highlighted.

Kelly’s recommendations to protect your hair and scalp

As with the skin, your best mode of protection is prevention.  Once the hair has become damaged it can be reconditioned so that it “appears” to be healthy, but nothing can permanently repair damaged hair.  Protect your hair and scalp by:

  • Wearing a hat when outdoors offers the most protection
  • Use conditioners and hair treatments that infuse the hair with moisture
  • Look for hair products that provide UVA and UVB protection
  • Use natural hair oils and masks

Two weeks ago I received press samples for products from the French brand, Leonor Greyl.  During this time period I have fallen in love with the three conditioning/treatment products shown below:

Masque Fleurs de Jasmin

heat protection hair mask

Masque Fleurs de Jasmin is a nourishing and beauty-enhancing mask for thin hair that can be used as an everyday conditioner or as a weekly treatment for your length and ends.  Over the last two weeks I have used it as an after shampoo conditioner, applying from midshaft to ends.  The ingredients in Masque Fleurs de Jasmin work together to nourish, regenerate, detangle and increase the flexibility of the hair without weighing it down.

Eclat Naturel

eclat-naturel

Winner 2016 Best Beauty Buy InStyle Magazine

Eclat Naturel is a nourishing style cream for very dry, thick or frizzy hair.  While it is too heavy for me to use as a styling cream, I am able to use it to smooth the ends of wet or dry hair and prevent hair static.  Eclat Naturel also provides heat protection from styling tools and UV rays.  As with all of the products from Leonor Greyl, Eclat Naturel is made with natural ingredients including shea butter and jojoba oil.

Huile de Leonor

Huile-De-Leonor-Greyl

Huile de Leonor Greyl is a nourishing, softening and beautifying pre-shampoo treatment derived of natural oils that helps to protect the hair and scalp from the elements.  You can read my review of Huile de Leonor Greyl here:

As a woman with very fine, straight hair it is difficult to find high quality hair products that protect and restore my hair without weighing it down.  Although I still have several products left to test from the Leonor Greyl line, thus far the products I have used are the best nourishing treatments that I have ever tried.  If you would like to learn more about the Leonor Greyl brand or shop for products visit the Leonor Greyl website by clicking here.

Leonor Greyl products are:

  • SLS Free
  • Silicone Free
  • Paraben Free
  • Coal Tar Free
  • Color Safe
  • Cruelty Free
