Powerful prayer Psalm 13

I’m hurting, Lord-will you forget me forever? How much longer, Lord? Will you look the other way when I’m in need? (Psalm 13:1 TPT)

Powerful prayer in desperate times

Desperation. Anointed as king, David struggles with challenges that came before his exaltation. God, why haven’t you answered me? Why have you left me all alone to wrestle with my doubts? Please don’t ignore me much longer; I’m struggling to hold on…

David’s honesty and authenticity inspire me beyond words. Because he has an intimate, loving relationship with the Lord, he doesn’t feel the need to sugarcoat his feelings. Instead, he pours out his heart, rolling all his fears and doubts onto his heavenly Father’s shoulders:

  • He feels forgotten…
  • He feels invisible…
  • He feels abandoned…
  • He feels alone…

Maybe you can relate. Do you feel as though God is hiding His face from your cries? Are you questioning why God has left you alone to wrestle with your doubts and fears? Well, the good news is, God’s okay with our not-so-pretty feelings.

A lesson we can learn from David

Even in the wilderness, David trusts and prays his way out. Here in Psalm 13, He describes the journey:

  • from self to God,
  • from despair to delight, and
  • from feeling abandoned to feeling affirmed.

David’s powerful prayer begins with pain, but by the end of his prayer, David’s moaning gives way to music.

Our emotions may overwhelm us, and our feelings may rise and fall. But when, through an act of will, we praise God and give Him our burdens, He will calm us and bring peace to our hearts. (Habakkuk 3:17-19; John 14:27; Philippians 4:6-7)

We, too, through prayer, can express our feelings and talk our struggles out with God.  Go ahead, taste and see that the Lord is good!

Sending peace, love, and prayers to all!
