Sadly, none of us are immune to Satan’s attempts to destroy our lives and our marriages. In this era of instant gratification and expectation of entitlement, it’s more important than ever to build a hedge of protection around those near and dear to us, especially our husbands. How do we do that you ask? It’s simple, there is no method or means more valuable than prayer.
As someone learning to relinquish control and allow God to lead my life I now recognize the importance of conversational prayer. Prayer that is woven into my everyday life. A constant flow of conversation between myself and my Heavenly Father. Our tendency is to pray out of desperation or to use prayer as a defense mechanism when things are falling apart. Prayer is most effective when it’s exercised from the heart, in times of joy as well as sorrow. Think of it as an immunization to the disease of Satan’s influence on our lives. Just as we take preventive measures to protect our bodies from illness, we should also take protective measures for our emotional and spiritual well-being.
My message for you is this: Don’t wait until distraction and temptation show up in your marriage. Start praying today! Be ever mindful, watchful, ready to guard your most valued treasures – your spouse and your family at all times. Jesus gave us fair warning of the temptations to come:
Mark 14:38 38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. (NIV)
Decide to be a warrior not a worrier for your marriage. Don’t be timid, be ready. Every marriage will experience trials of some sort and it’s up to us to protect the people we love. Dear friends, I encourage you to take an objective look at your marriage right now. Do you see trouble brewing? Are you in the midst of a massive storm in your marriage or are you complacent and just going through the motions? Whatever the case may be make a decision right now to stand up and fight for what you once believed would be your fairy tale. As wife and best-selling author, Stormie Omartain states in her book, The power of a praying wife:
“God can resurrect the deadest of marriages, but it takes humbling ourselves before Him and desiring to live His way—with forgiveness, kindness, and love. It means letting go of the past and all hurt associated with it and being willing to lose the argument in order to win the battle” (Excerpt From: Omartian, Stormie. “The Power of a Praying® Wife.” Harvest House Publishers. iBooks.)
